Hill AFB - Quick Trip

We had a last minute trip. Dad called his command to find out what he needed to do to ride his motorcycle for military standards. He had to complete a motorcycle safety course. Well he called Hill Air Force Base in Utah and they had an opening for the class that started the very next day. Dad called and asked if the family wanted to go. The military paid for the trip and we just had to pay the extra from the standard room to the family room at the hotel. It was only $2.00 so we said it was totally worth the trip, although things didn't go as smoothly as planned.

We left for Utah around 4:00 pm on Wednesday and arrived to the base around 6:30 pm. But when we arrived they took Mom's military ID because it had expired in November 2010. She had no idea since she never uses it except to get military discounts at some placed and they just have to see it but don't really look at it. Dad couldn't believe Mom let this happen again, first with her drivers license in Okinawa and now this. So she knew that she would have to get a new one while we were there. They gave her a receipt for her ID but it gave her no base privledges so she was stuck at the hotel basically until she got a new one.

Well we checked into our room and got the dogs settled and by that time the PX and Commissary were closed as well as the food court. We were stuck with Burger King since they don't check your ID there & also grabbed some food for in the morning at the seven day store. We decided to just bring it back to the room.

The next morning Dad had to get up super early 4:30 to go and get a pass to drive his motorcycle on base. Then he came back & had breakfast. The kids were all up by then and said goodbye. He headed over to his class while Mom got the kids ready and we headed to the ID office. We waited for almost an hour and then they told us that Mom couldn't get her ID without Dad's signature or a power of attorney. She got all the paperwork done and a photo taken. Now all Dad had to do was to show up to sign for an authorization for her to get it. But he was in class until lunch and it had been raining most of the morning. So guess where we were stuck? That is right...in the hotel. The kids were so thrilled. They said it was the worst vacation ever.

Well Mom thought we could sneak into the food court without having to show her ID and she was right. So we were able to leave for a little while to get food but the kids were tired and so whiney that we again took it back to the room. On our way out it was hailing and the kids cried all the way to the car. Dad showed up shortly after we got back with our lunch, so Mom ran to get him lunch, he ate it really quick and then headed over to get her ID. Then the kids took a nap. Mom was happy about that. She worked on her primary stuff for Sunday and got most of it done. The kids slept for about two hours with Staci taking her nap towards the end so Mom knew she would have a hard time sleeping tonight.

It finally started looking nice so we were able to go outside and play on the playground which was right outside our room.

YEAH! We could now leave. So we headed over to the Hill Air Museum. The kids just loved all the planes. Xander said the funniest thing. He must have thought that they were not real planes because he said, "What would happen if we could fly all the planes and they really worked."

The kids area had just closed so Mom said we could go back again in the morning to do that part and see the rest of the planes outside as well. By the time we got back to the room Dad was finished. So we headed over to the Commissary, which Mom was super excited about and got the rest of our meals for the trip. We also got the kids donuts but during dinner Kaitlyn threw a fit and had to wait to have her donut until the next morning, which would be Friday.

The kids went right to bed since the day was not like we had planned and they were super whiny. They all went to sleep except for Staci. Mom knew that was coming. She stayed up with Mom & Dad for a little while drawing pictures of dinosaurs. Mom & Dad watched some sports before going to bed themselves. Staci didn't go to sleep until amost midnight. A nap may have not been such a good idea for her.

On Friday as Mom was making breakfast and getting things cleaned up for our check out in a few hours, Brayden brought her something into the kitchen. He had the biggest smile on his face and carried a piece of poop from Rosie into her. Mom screamed and just thought that was what comes with having your dogs at a hotel with you.

We were going to meet Grandma & Aubrey to go over to the Dinosaur Park but they decided not to come. So we ran back over to the Air Museum and did the kids area. It was fun! The kids got to get dressed up in space suits and climb into a few planes as well.

We came to the base and then headed over to the splash pad at the park. The kids thought that was the funnest park ever. Staci & Xander were all about getting wet with Brayden & Kaitlyn being a bit more timid in the water.

By that time it was about time to check out of our room. Mom had everything already packed before we left in the morning. So it was just picked up the luggage and dogs from the room and meeting Dad at the main office to check out.

Then we headed over to the park for lunch. The dogs were so happy to get out of their kennels. But that didn't last long because Dad headed back over to his class to finish his driving part of the test and we headed over to the Dinosaur Park. The kids couldn't wait for this part of the day. They had been talking about it all day, they just really wished Grandma was there too. The dogs were not too happy about staying in the car so Mom parked in the shade and it was a little walk over to the park.

By the time we got over there we only got to stay for an hour and Mom's camera died so she had to use her cell phone. The kids were brave, even Brayden and went right up to many of the dinosaurs. They wanted to dig for fossils for so long; but Mom reminded them that we were only going to be there for a short time and they could either play in the dirt or see all the dinosaurs. They chose to see the dinosaurs. They couldn't play at the play area very long either only because it was too hot to touch most of it. It was so rushed that Mom said they could go back again when we visit in a few weeks.

We got back to the base when Dad said to and waited in the car for almost an hour. Mom said that was enough of just sitting in the car watching Dad ride in circles so we headed back over to the splash pad. But just after we arrived Dad sent Mom a message saying he was done. But Mom let the kids play for a little because they were waiting for him forever.

Dad scored a perfect score on everything. They were shocked when they found out he had only been driving for a total of three days now. They thought he had already done the advanced course. He really enjoyed the class and learned a lot.

On our way home we decided to celebrate Dad's perfect score and took the kids out to a restaurant instead of getting fast food to eat in the car. We stopped at a China Buffet and ate some great food. Mom made the mistake of giving Brayden green jello. He had it everywhere but his smile never left his face.

Learning to Hula

Today was a big day for Kaitlyn. We registered her for Kindergarten. It didn't quite go as planned for Mom though. We all got up early with Staci and took her to school. Then we got in line for the registration. Mom was feeling pretty good because we were like 12th one there. But as we waited for 45 minutes and got up to the front of the line they wouldn't put Kaitlyn's name on the list because we didn't have prove of our address. Mom wasn't aware that we needed it since we already have one child at the school and they should have this on file. They said they could give her the paperwork but that she couldn't be added to the list until they can verify where we live. Mom had to go home. She was furious and hoped that we could still get Kaitlyn into this school. Here in Pocatello they have open enrollment so you can take your kids where ever you want. This doesn't make any sense why it matters where you live then anyways but Mom hurried as quickly as she could...

Helpers in the Kitchen

Each night a different one of my children helps me make dinner. I have done this for awhile but have finally figured out the way to make it easier on myself. i get everything prepared ahead of time in little bowls just like they do on the Food Network. This way the kids just mix the ingredients in an easy way without having to measure stuff and the clean up is so much easier. I just tell them how much everything is as we are putting it together. Well tonight I made something super easy but it has the restaurant style look to it from a Pillsbury Cookbook (one of those small ones that are always by the register that my husband and I have a ton of because we pick them up all the time when we are out and about). I think my husband will be shocked, at least I hope he is... Monster Trucks

This morning the kids all slept in but we had to get them going since today was going to be a busy day. We made pancakes & eggs for breakfast. After we ate it was time for Staci to say good bye to Cami & take her home. They had a fun sleepover although Staci has been one onwry girl every since. So it will be a few weeks before she can have another sleep over, that is for sure. We left to go and get Dad's new toy, a new BBQ grill. We got it at Costco for a little more money than Mom had originally thought when Dad started searching a few months ago. But this grill has everything; an oven, ice box, a searing station, griddle and more. It is everything Dad wants in a BBQ. But now Dad can do all the big cooking outside and not use up the kitchen for the big dinners that he puts on for people. Dad is a great cook and Mom's know this will get plenty of use. Well we got home and then had to get Xander changed to be ready for his big game. It was his first t-ball game today and...
