Today was our first day taking the boat out on the lake. We are excited to have
it running and try out our new toys. Dad found a lake that is about 20 minutes
away and is actually heated by a power plant. The water is 87 degrees and it is
beautiful!!
We just brought the tube. The kids each took turns and even tried a few times together. Brayden even went out on the tube, which scared Mom to death (but he did great and LOVED it!!). We let the kids jump in the water and swim around. Jumping off the bow was their favorite part of the day. We were out on the lake for about 3 1/2 hours.
Mom made a fun holiday dessert today. It is an ice cream cake that Dad found. It had six layers of raspberry sorbet and vanilla ice cream alternating as the stripes. Then a blue velvet cake cooked as the stars. It is a round cake that when cut will look like the American flag. Each ice cream layer is covered in plastic wrap, flattened with the back of a cup and frozen for 30 minutes. It was very time consuming but Mom is hoping it turns out cute!!
For dinner we made hotdogs and hamburgers. Then we were invited to the fireworks with some friends from our ward. We decided to bring the dogs since they were in their kennels all day, which was not the best idea.
The place we went was in Clemmons across from city hall. They didn't allow any pets on the town square and we were told by 4 police officers that we could have the dogs around but just not in the town square. Luckily our friends were sitting in the street just out of town square. At first it was ok but then a guy came up and told us we had to move because they didn't allow dogs at their event. We stayed until the police officers told us that we had to move. We moved to a grassy spot across from town hall.
Luckily our friends let our kids play with their friends while we sat with the dogs. Once it was darker we had our kids come over by us to watch the fireworks. The show was really good but we were a little covered by the trees. Rosie freaked out the same that she did another time we took her. She shook and panted so much she was getting slobber all over the place. One drop landed inside Kaitlyn's ear. Trigger jumped a few times but mostly just laid there like nothing was going on. There was times when he could feel a few of the fireworks since we were so close. We decided that we are just going to leave the dogs home from now on.
We walked to our car and were parked just behind the city hall building at an elementary school. We thought it was great parking until we didn't move for over a half hour. After 45 minutes and not moving we noticed that the police had us blocked off. There were 4 small parking lots going out of the one exit and we were allowed to leave until everyone left the event. It was a nightmare! Good thing we had the DVD player in the car. We just turned that on and the kids didn't really realize that we weren't moving. We got home about 11:30 pm and decided it was too late to do the fireworks. Xander was also so asleep that he didn't even respond to us getting him out of the car. So we were going to do fireworks tomorrow night. The kids all went right to sleep!!
