10th Anniversary Weekend

Tiffany planned our Anniversary getaway. We dropped the kids & the dogs off at Grandma & Grandpa's house in Salt Lake on Thursday until Sunday.

FRIDAY: Tiffany had planned to have snowboarding lesson at Powder Mountain in Ogden so we left early and were on our way. We arrived and found out that the deal Tiff thought they were having may have been somewhere else because their fee was more than double what she wanted to pay. So we went to Worf Creek which was a mountain right across the way. We stopped and got lunch. Paul got a crab salad sandwich and Tiffany got a salad. She didn't realize there was no fork so she ate it with her fingers. That was very interesting. We got to the resort and found out they had a great military rate so once we had all our gear Paul taught Tiff how to snowboard. She was so scared an nervous which made her very tense. We started in the kids area and she was freaking out, so we moved to a small hill in front of the ski lift. Tiff didn't want to get on that thing until she knew what she was doing. But after going down a few times on her own there, Paul convinced her that the only way to figure it out is by doing it and going to the top of the bunny slope. So we headed over to the chair lift. The guy punched our passes and Mom being such the blonde that she is asked if we could only got down a certain amount of times. Paul & the guy got a good laugh out of it. They then knew this was her first time and were very helpful. But as we got on the lift she was clenching tightly to Dad and shaking. We made it to the top and she couldn't believe that you have to just fall off the chair and then quickly get out of the way. But she did it. We started down. Paul went backwards while Tiff went forward and we held hands. It was good for her to learn her balance this way. Then she tried it on her own. It was many tries of up and down and up and down. Paul was actually very patient and a good teacher to Tiff. We made it down but Paul was shocked how long it took. It took almost 2 hours the first time down. At one point she was laying on the slope asking Paul if there was a time limit of how long you could be on the hill. He just smiled. When we were not even a 1/4 of the way down she noticed that a lady was on her third time going down skiing. So we headed up again on the second run. This time it didn't take quite as long as she was just figuring out how to do it. She did 1/3 of the hill at he bottom all on her own. Paul went down ahead of her and watched. He was clapping & smiling when she made it down because she was actually doing it. Tiff knew she did something right but her legs were spaghetti and she was done. She sat at the bottom while Paul went up the big one all the way at the top. We were done after that. Tiffany had a blast and can't wait to go again.
We drove to the hotel, The Hilton in downtown Salt Lake and checked in. We lived it up and even did the valet parking. We did a little walking around at Gateway before we had dinner at the food court. We got Japanese food and it was so yummy!
We went to a mall and tried to get some samples for Dad of some after shave to try out. He likes the samples anyways for his over night bag when he goes to Boise. We were shocked with how big the samples are getting.
Then when we got back to the hotel we headed down to the hot tub. It was a huge dissapointment. We sat in there and the water didn't even go past our bellies. Then the water was not very hot and the jets were right at your butt level. So we hopped in the pool. Tiffany couldn't believe that she could barely even touch. We swam for a little and then sat in the hot tub a little longer before heading back up to our room.

SATURDAY: We slept in until room service knocked on the door at 8:30. We splurged and had breakfast in bed. But as the waiter handed Tiffany the slip to sign she gave him a tip. As he left he thanked her and Paul asked if she tipped him. She totally forgot that they added a 20% tip already. So now she gave him an even bigger tip. Whoops! She was still waking up.
Before lunch we took a walk. It was raining a little and we walked over to the temple. Tiff wanted a picture at the temple but since it started raining more we hurried back over to the hotel.
For lunch we ate right next door at the olive garden and got the soup & salad special. Our waiter asked if we wanted it all brought out together. We kind of laughed and thought that was funny to aske us because the soup & salad should already be made and we were the first ones to arrive at the restaurant.
Today was our spa day for the couples massage. First we got to sick in the steam room. But ther room was kind of wierd. The room was completely tiled in and the tile was freezing and wet to sit on. The steam was pretty warm but they need a little different set up. We then started the massage part. Tiff was looking forward to this part. We each got an hour full body massage but we were in separate rooms. Then we headed into another room for pedicures. Tiff wishes she got pictures of this though. It was a fun set up that Tiffany just loved.
We met Xander & Grandma at build a bear at the mall. It was Xander's turn to get his build a bear and Mom needed to get pictures of him & Grandma together. Grandpa stayed home with the rest of the kids. Xander was so cute and so happy. He picked out a camo bear and a soccer outfit for him with cleats.
Dinner tonight we had Tucanos for dinner, a Brazilian BBQ place. The food was good but our waitress should be fired. She never came and took our order. We had been there before and knew what we were doing so we helped ourselves. Half way through our meal she came to ask how we were doing and Paul asked if that was our waitress. That right there tells you how bad she was.
When we got back to the hotel we asked what we could do around town besides the monster truck show. The guy at the front recommended a piano bar.
The rain was getting stronger but we walked anyways since it was so close. All the tables inside we marked reserved so Paul went to ask what we needed to do to get a table. This guy was watching Tiffany and asked if she was looking for him. She said no and thought he was kind of wierd. He had a mullet with a pink mohawk. Paul came back saying we talk to the same guy to get a table. He said, "Oh, so you were looking for me. That is okay you are cute so I'll help you anyways." We got our table and then the waitress got us some drinks and started our tab. Tiffany has never been to a place like this and thought it was crazy that they keep your credit card in their pocket. Paul explained that is how they get you. That is pretty smart if people get drunk. We got pina coladas (virgin) and just sat back and watched all these people already drunk before the show evern started. This place was a dueling piano show. You give requests but if you don't add money to your request it is just a suggestion. Then to get them to stop playing that song you had to pay so much to get your song on. The highest request was played first. The guys were amazing and could play any song you wanted so we liked that. People paid $20 twice to get them to play their songs. So the owner of this place was a very smart man who is making a ton of money each night. We stayed a little over an hour. We did get a call from Grandpa though. They had the police show up because of Cooper's barking. We told him to tighten the bark collar and that seemed to do the trick because he didn't call back.

This weekend was all about doing things that are different together. It was a great weekend and we had such a good time together.

We weren't going to exchange gifts until our actually anniversary in March but we did anyways. Tiffany got Paul the knives he has always wanted. We found the anniversary set that had three knives in the asian style. Then when we got back home Paul took Tiff in and bought her the whole set up with a new board & goggles for her gift. We got such a great discount at Zummies in the mall that we couldn't pass it up.
